Homocysteine: Indicator of cardiovascular health

Arteriosclerosis, heart attacks, and strokes are among the most common causes of death worldwide. At the biochemical level, there is a marker that is considered a risk factor for cardiovascular disease: homocysteine. If not broken down sufficiently, this sulfur-containing amino acid damages blood vessels, promotes plaque formation, and causes oxidative stress. Homocysteine accumulates in the body especially when there are insufficient resources to break it down. B vitamins play a key role in this breakdown.

B vitamins: physiologically effective in cases of high homocysteine

The standard therapy for lowering high homocysteine levels includes the administration of high-dose vitamin B6-B9-B12 preparations. In contrast, the entire B-COMPLEX, i.e., all 8 essential B vitamins as a team, is able to keep this amino acid “in check” even at low physiological doses. A balanced B-COMPLEX is therefore a good and far more moderate alternative for maintaining cardiovascular health.
